Works in Progress
Residencies offer artists space to create without pressure and room to experiment, to steep and percolate, and to work through ideas in community. The eight artists in the Live.In.Art Residency live and work in the same building in the heart of South Beach. This merging of studio and home invites a particular kind of intimacy between the artist and practice, between neighbors and the public, and the work in progress.
Works in Progress marks the midpoint of the residency and brings together works in various stages of completion. Some are finished, others still evolving, each offering insight into the layered, nonlinear rhythms of creative practice.
The residency encourages a slower pace that resists the constant demands of production and allows space to reflect, exchange, and recalibrate. After the exhibition opening, the gallery itself will shift, becoming an active studio space where artists will continue to develop their work. In this way, the exhibition mirrors the residency that is always unfolding, never static, and shaped by its surroundings and the people who move through it.
Works in Progress features work by Sue Beyer, Jevon A. Brown, Elaine Defibaugh, Luna Palazzolo-Daboul, Edison Peñafiel, Jacoub Reyes, Oscar Rieveling, and Zonia Zena.
